Question : SETTING UP OF POWER PROJECTS IN MANIPUR



(a) whether the Government have received any proposal to set up Loktak Down Stream Hydro-Electric Project in Manipur;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of new power projects proposed to be set up in the state;

(d) the number of projects approved by the planning commission for the State during the year 1999-2000;

(e) the stages at which these proposals are lying pending; and

(f) the steps being taken to expedite the clearance of projects?

(a) to (f) : Loktak Downstream Hydro-electric Project (3x30 MW) is located in Tamenglong District in Manipur on river Leimatak. Government approval has been accorded for execution of the project by National Hydro-electric Power Corporation (NHPC) at an estimated cost of Rs.578.62 crores (April 1999 Price Level) with completion in 6-1/2 years. Works of infrastructure development facilities at the project are in progress. An amount of Rs.5.89 crores has been spent upto December 1999.

Tipaimukh Hydro-electric project (1500 MW) has been identified for being executed by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) in Manipur. After signing the requisite agreement with the State Government of Manipur, NEEPCO proposes to initiate action for obtaining all requisite clearances required for obtaining the investment clearance from Government.
