Question : MONUMENTS PRESERVED IN WEST BENGAL



(a) the number of monuments/sites declared as of national monuments in West Bengal;

(b) the amount spent on conservation and maintenance of these monuments during the year 2007-08, 2008-2009, till 31 December 2009;

(c) the revenue earned by the Government from these monuments/sites during the above period;

(d) whether the Government proposes to declare any other monuments/sites as monuments of national importance in the State; and

(e) if so, the details thereof, alongwith the location(s) of such monuments/sites?

(a)&(b) One-hundred thirty three monuments/sites declared as of national importance under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India are in West Bengal.The amount spent on conservation, preservation and maintenance of these monuments during the last two years and till 31 December 2009 of current financial year is as under:

(c) The revenue earned by way of entrance fee from three centrally protected ticketed monuments in West Bengal i.e. (1) Bishnupur Group of Temples; (2) Cooch Bihar Palace; and (3) Hazarduari Palace, during the last two years till 31 December 2009 is as under:
