Question : Losses Incurred by PSUs

(a) the details of various Public Sector Undertaking (PSUs) in the country including those in Chhattisgrah along with the details of losses incurred by these PSUs in each State during the last three years and the current year;

(b) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to make such loss making PSUs viable in the country;

(c) whether the Government proposes to set up more PSUs in the country including Chhattisgarh; and

(d) if so, the details thereof, State-wise/Union Territory-wise?

(a) As on 31.03.2020 there were 256 operating CPSEs in the country, out of which 3 operating CPSEs are in Chhattisgarh. There were 72 loss making CPSEs in 2017-18, 69 in 2018-19 and 84 in 2019-20. The year wise and State-wise breakup of loss making CPSEs alongwith the losses is given at Annexure.
(b) The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) has issued guidelines on 29.10.2015 for “Streamlining the mechanism for revival and restructuring of sick/ incipient sick and weak CPSEs. As per the guidelines, the administrative Ministries/ Departments are responsible to monitor the sickness of CPSEs and identify the sick/incipient sick/weak CPSEs functioning under their control based on the performance and take timely redressal measures.
(c) and (d) Any decision to set up new CPSEs is also taken by the sectoral line Ministries/Departments after taking into consideration the needs and commercial viability and extant policy of the Government.
