Question : NCERT Books

(a) whether the Government proposes to review NCERT books and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the details of the Committee of Historians and Experts, which has finalised the books of
history for class 6 to class 12 published by the NCERT and currently in use;
(c) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to ensure that all the religious and
regions are adequately represented in proper perspective in the different books published by
NCERT; and
(d) whether the Government is aware that adequate representation has not been given in
NCERT books of history related to Sikh history and culture?

(a) No, Madam.
(b) The books of history for classes 6 to 12 published by National Council for Education Research
and Training (NCERT), which are currently in use were finalised by the Textbook Development
Committee comprising Professors, Associate Professors of Department of History from Central/ State
universities and NCERT and teachers of Government and private schools.
(c) & (d) Books published by NCERT have adequate contents with regard to all religions and
regions in proper perspective.
