Question : ELECTRIFICATION OF RAILWAY LINE



(a) the targets set for electrification of rail lines in the country during the Tenth Five Year Plan State-wise;

(b) the total length of rail lines electrified, State-wise, particularly in Karnataka;

(c) the total length of the rail lines electrification work of which is running behind the scheduled target giving details thereof, State-wise particularly in Karnataka; and

(d) the time by which the pending work of electrification of rest of the rail lines likely to be completed, project-wise?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3127 BY SHRI G. KARUNAKARA REDDY, TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 20.03.2008 REGARDING ELECTRIFICATION OF RAILWAY LINE.

(a) Against the target of electrification of 1800 Route Kilometres, fixed during Tenth Five Year Plan, 1810 Route Kilometres have been electrified. State-wise targets were not fixed, as Railway projects are not confined to State boundaries.

(b) As on 31.03.2007, 17811 Route Kilometres of tracks have been electrified over Indian Railways. The Route Kilometres of tracks electrified, State-wise, are broadly as under:

(c) The targets of completion of projects are fixed on year to year basis keeping in view the progress of the works and the availability of resources.

8 Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram incl. Southern Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram Thiruvananthapuram-Kanniyakumari and completed.Thiruvananthapuram- Trichur-Guruvayur Kanniyakumari and Trichur-Guruvayur sanctioned at later stage which are targetted for completion upto September 2009.
