Question : Road Transport Infrastructure in Tamil Nadu

(a) the details of road projects under execution in Tamil Nadu along with the date of sanction, status of each project, expected date of completion and allocation/utilization of funds thereon;
(b) whether any difficulties are holding up some of these projects and if so, the details thereof along with the remedial measures being taken by the Government in this regard; and
(c) the details of new projects proposed for development of road transport infrastructure in Tamil Nadu?

(a) 83 National Highway projects covering 1717 km length at an estimated cost of Rs. 26,058 Crore are under execution in the State of Tamil Nadu. The details are Annexed.
(b) Major difficulties faced are Delay in granting of permission for extraction of borrow earth, delay in land acquisition, non-receipt of NOC/permission from PWD/WRD for construction of structures in water body areas and delay in obtaining forest clearance etc. To ensure timely/early completion of works, issues relating to the State Govt. /District Administration, Utility owning departments, Forest Department and other concerned State/Central Agencies are taken up with them for expediting Land Acquisition and other pre-construction activities. Besides regular monitoring of projects with respective Authority/Independent Engineer and Contractor/ Concessionaire is done.
(c) Ministry has proposed to undertake development of 2,529 km length of National Highways at an estimated cost of about Rs. 67,935 Crore in the next three years.
