Question : DEVELOPMENT OF HANDLOOM INDUSTRY



(a) whether there are ample possibilities for the Development of handloom industry and carpet weaving centres in the country;

(b) if so, the steps taken by the Government to explain the possibilities of development of handloom industry and carpet weaving centres in the country particularly of Azamgarh and Mau districts in Uttar Pradesh; and

(c) the assistance provided for this purpose during each of the last two years ?

(a) There is sufficient potential for development of handloom industry and limited potential for development of Carpet weaving centres in the country.

(b)&(c) The Government has been implementing various schemes for the development of handloom industry in the country including Azamgarh and Mau districts of Uttar Pradesh and funds are released based on viability of the proposals received from the State Governments.

For carpet weaving industry, the Government has been providing grant-in-aid to State Corporations, Apex Societies and Non-Governmental organizations for imparting need based training in carpet weaving in the country including Azamgarh and Mau districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The details of the assistance provided under the above Schemes to various States including Azamgarh and Mau districts of Uttar Pradesh during the last two years are as under :-
