Question : Rainfed Area Development Scheme

(a) whether the Government is implementing a scheme called Rainfed Area Development (RAD) Scheme in the country and if so, the details and the salient features of the programme;

(b) whether the Government has any statistics regarding the funds released to
various States under RAD Scheme; and

(c) if so, the details of such funds released to various States, State-wise?

(a): Yes Sir, Rainfed Area Development (RAD) Scheme is being implemented as a component of National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) since the year 2014-15 in the country. The salient feature of RAD is to promote Integrated Farming System (IFS) for enhancing productivity and minimizing risks associated with climatic variability.

Under this system, crops are integrated with activities, such as, horticulture, livestock, fisheries, agro-forestry, apiculture, green house, water harvesting and management, vermi compost , silage making, village level storage & processing units undertaken on a cluster basis. Since inception of the scheme, an area of 3.85 lakh ha has been brought under Integrated Farming System.

(b) & (c): A sum of Rs. 1121.00 crore have been released to States since inception to 2018-19. State-wise details are annexed. During 2019-20 an outlay of Rs 250 crore is provided for implementation of Rainfed Area Development scheme in the country.
