MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
(SHRI UPENDRA KUSHWAHA)

(a) to (c) : No, Madam. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is only an
examination conducting body, which affiliates schools for the purpose of conduct of
examination. It is the responsibility of the State Governments to ensure that schools
functioning from their Territory follow the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and
Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009 relating to the children belonging to weaker
section and disadvantaged group and take action against such schools which violate
the provisions of the RTE Act.
(d) : Education being a subject in the Concurrent List of the Constitution and the
majority of schools being under the jurisdiction of the State Governments, it is for the
respective State Government to take appropriate action in the matter in respect of such
schools functioning from their territory.
