Question : Import of Cashew Nuts

(a) whether the Government proposes to promote the import of cashew nuts through Cashew Export Promotion Council of India;

(b) if so, the details of the action taken by the Government thereon;

(c) the details of the study conducted by a New York based professional service organisation regarding the scope of import through Kollam Port;

(d) whether the Government proposes to implement the recommendation in the study report to start a Plant Quarantine Station at Kollam Port;

(e) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Government thereon;

(f) whether the Government has received a proposal from the State Government of Kerala for establishing a Plant Quarantine Station at Kollam Port; and

(g) if so, the details of the action taken by the Government for establishing a Plant Quarantine Station at Kollam Port?

(a): There is no proposal with Government to promote the import of cashew nuts through Cashew Export Promotion Council of India.

(b): Does not arise in view of the (a) above

(c): Government is not aware of such study conducted by a New York based professional service organization in the matter.

(d) & (e): Does not arise in view of (c) above.

(f) & (g): Information is being collected and will be placed on the floor of Parliament.
