Question : PUBLICATION OF SECRET DOCUMENTS



(a) whether the Government are aware that after the disintegration of the USSR, the present Government is making public its secret documents by categorising these as unclassified;

(b) if so, whether several documents relating to India out of them have been published in several newspapers from time to time;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government have any plan to bring these documents to India; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

THE MINISTER OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI JASWANT SINGH)

(a): The Government are aware of declassification of previously secret documents by the Government of the Russian Federation.

(b): The Government are not aware of any publication of such declassified documents relating to India, in newspapers.

(c): Does not arise

(d) & (e): Presently, there is no agreement between the Government of India and the Government of the Russian Federation for bringing these declassified documents from the Russian Federation to India.
