(a), (b) and (c): Specific information with regard to Piracy in the Cyber World is not maintained separately. However, State / UT wise cases registered under section 70 of IT Act (Un-authorised access / attempt to access of protected Computer System) during 2011-2013 are enclosed at Annexure I. Annual data for the year 2014 is under collection.
(d): Yes, Sir. Indian Copyright Act, 1957 has been so far amended six times (1983, 1984, 1992, 1994, 1999 and 2012). The Copyright (Amendment) Act 2012 has been an extensive one which extends exclusive right provided to creators / owners of all works to digital environment and online networks. Section 65 A (Protection of Technological Measures ) and Section 65 B (Protection of Right Management Information) read with Rule 80 of the Copyright Rules, 2013 and Clause (c) of subsection (1) of Section 52 of the Copyright Act, 1957 read with Rule 75 of the Copyright Rules 2013, are the provisions of the Act which deals effectively with digital environment and online piracy.
Further, Copyright Act 1957 as amended in 2012 also provides Civil Remedies (Chapter XII Section 54-62) as well as Criminal Remedies (Chapter XIII (Section 63-70) to the Copyright holder. Copyright Enforcement Advisory Council (CEAC) exists to deal with copyright awareness and measures for improving the enforcement of the Copyright Act 1957. At the behest to CEAC, enforcement / IPR Cell have been created in States and nodal officers designated to detail with IPR enforcement matters.
