Question : Scrapping of Toll System

(a) whether there has been any demand for scrapping of the toll system by transporters;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the reaction thereto;

(c) whether there was any strike by the transporters across the country during the first week of October, 2015 in this regard;

(d) if so, whether the Government has taken any step to avoid such strikes; and

(e) if so, the details thereof along with the loss suffered as a result of strike including making roads toll free?

(a) Yes, Madam.

(b) The demand of the transporters has been to levy one time amount in a year and their vehicles be allowed free access on the National Highways without interruption. The demand has not yet been accepted by the Ministry.

(c) Yes, Madam.

(d) Government has constituted a coordination Committee under the Chairmanship of Joint Secretary (RT&H) to review periodically the issues faced by the transporters.

(e) The Committee has been meeting regularly. In order to make the movements of the transports seamless nation wide electronic user fee collection is being launched on pan India basis.
