Question : UNAUTHORISED STRUCTURES IN NDMC AREA

(a) whether Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs) are permitted/ entitled to recommend the sanctioning of temporary electricity connection to unauthorised structures in the NDMC areas;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the procedure followed for sanctioning such connections to unauthorised structures in the said areas;

(d) whether any such recommendation has been received from RWAs including in Chanakyapuri area for any unauthorized structure built in said areas;

(e) if so, the details thereof; and

(f) the details of the steps being taken by the said civic agency to remove encroachment on Government land/ demolish unauthorised structures including snapping of electricity connections granted to them in the NDMC areas including Chanakyapuri and time by which such action is likely to be taken?

(b): Do not arise.

(c) to (e): Temporary electricity connections are sanctioned to various religious places in the New Delhi Municipal Council area, existing prior to 31.03.1993 on the basis of recommendation / confirmation from the respective area MLA. A policy on this issue was approved by the NDMC on 26.3.1997 and 31.3.1997.

(f): The NDMC takes action for removal of unauthorised structure as and when such structure is noticed. So for as unauthorised religious structures are concerned, action regarding removal of the structures is taken on the recommendation of a Religious Committee constituted by the Lieutenant Governor, Delhi.
