Question : MEASURES TO TACKLE NAXALISM



(a) whether the Government has devised modalities including appointing the head of unified command to deal with the naxal menace in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether there is any proposal to appoint ex-servicemen for de-mining duties and to push for more anti-landmine vehicles and armoured vehicles for anti-naxal operations in the country; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon?

MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI AJAY MAKEN)

(a) & (b): In the meeting of Governor/Chief Ministers of naxal affected States held on 14 July 2010, it was, inter-alia, decided to create a Unified Command headed by the Chief Secretary in the States of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal.

(c) & (d): There is no proposal to appoint ex-servicemen for de-mining duties. Depending on the requirement of anti landmine and armoured vehicles in the field, funds are provided under the scheme of Modernization of Police Forces.
