(a) whether subsidy to farmers in the country is low as compared to others countries;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to grant per hectare subsidy to the farmers as provided in developed countries;

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(e) whether the Government has decreased the subsidy to farmers in the country during the last three years and the current year;

(f) if so, the details thereof alongwith the reasons therefor; and

(g) the steps taken by the Government for awareness campaign about subsidies provided and for its more effective implementation?

(b): The subsidies provided by the United States, European Communities and Japan to their Agriculture as per their notifications to WTO are given below.

Source: CSO. These include fertiliser, electricity, irrigation and other subsidies. Electricity subsidy includes all subsidies given to electricity Boards and corporations.

(d): Subsidy provided by the Government to farmers depends on its ability to provide that Subsidy and also on commitments made under WTO. However, preference is given to small and marginal farmers in most Schemes of the Department.

(g): The Government is implementing various schemes like Mass Media Support to Agriculture, Kisan Call Centres etc., for providing information on various schemes/programmes of the Government including provision of subsidies for the development of the agricultural Sector.
