Question : Accessibilty of Water in Tamil Nadu

(a) the percentage of the population that does not have access to water supply facility in the State of Tamil Nadu, district-wise; and
(b) whether the Government has reduced the budgetary allocation for drinking water schemes and if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor?

(a) As reported by State Government of Tamil Nadu on Integrated Management Information System (IMIS), 97.22% of total population are fully covered (i.e. getting more than 40 litres per capita per day safe drinking water) and 2.78% of the population are partially covered (i.e. getting less than 40 litres per capita per day safe drinking water) as on 04.07.2019.

District-wise details of the percentage of rural population having drinking water supply as on 04.07.2019 in the State of Tamil Nadu is at Annexure.

(b) No Sir. The budgetary allocation for National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) during 2018-19 was Rs. 7000 crore which has been increased to Rs. 10000.66 crore for financial year 2019-20.
