Question : Servicing of Aircraft

(a) whether the servicing of aircraft of the Air India is done abroad in spite of the availability of technologically advanced aircraft servicecentres in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of aircraft serviced abroad during each of the last three years and the expenses incurred thereon; and

(d) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to service these aircraft in the country itself?

(a) & (b) : No, Madam. Repair work of aircraft of Air India is undertaken in-house. However, Aircraft were sent abroad only in case of special circumstances, such as at the time of return of leased aircraft, where lessors specify that re-delivery check has to be carried out at, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)/European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved facilities.

(c) & (d) : Since last three years, no aircraft has been sent abroad for
checks/ repair.
