Question : 100 Days of Guraranteed Wage Employment

(a) whether it is a fact that in the 100 days of guaranteed wage employment per head programme of the country, an average of only 53 days job has been provided during the last ten months till January 2022;

(b) if so, the reason therefor and the detailed report including applications received and employment given therein, State-wise; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to fulfill the target and generation of employment in rural areas?

(a) to (c) Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS) is a demand driven wage employment programme which provide for the enhancement of livelihood security of the households in rural areas of the country by providing at least one hundred days of guaranteed wage employment in every financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. It provides livelihood security, i.e. fall back options for livelihood for the rural households, when no better employment opportunity is available. State/UT-wise number of households completed 100 days of employment under the Mahatma Gandhi NREGS in the financial year 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 is given at Annexure.
