(a) whether the BSNL and MTNL are having a long wait list of people for land-line connections;
(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;
(c) whether any steps are being taken by BSNL and MTNL to clear the waiting list; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and the time by which the pending applications are likely to be cleared?

(a) & (b) State/Circle wise details of waiting list for landline telephone connections in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is at Annexure-I.
(c) & (d) BSNL and MTNL make continuous efforts to clear the waiting list. However, many new developing areas coming up in towns and for scattered areas, landline connections cannot be provided as they are technically non-feasible. Local bodies charges for Right of Way (RoW) are also quite high, due to which the viability for providing connections become non-economical.
