(a) & (b): Setting up of Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospital in an area is approved based on the number of Insured Persons (IPs) in that area regardless of the size of that city or district. The details of the criteria to establish ESI hospitals is placed at Annexure-I.
There are 160 Hospitals under ESI Scheme, out of which 50 hospitals are directly run by ESIC and 110 hospitals are run by respective State Governments. In addition ‘In Principle’ approval has been given to 50 additional hospitals.

Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) is notified in 36 out of 38 districts of Tamil Nadu, except Perambalur and Kallakurichi districts. Out of these, 13 districts are fully notified and 23 districts are partially notified in districts headquarters area and prominent industrial centres. The present status of implementation in Tamil Nadu is placed at Annexure-II.
Four partially notified districts namely Vellore, Madurai, Ariyalur and Mayiladuthurai have also been chosen for implementation of the Scheme in entire area of the districts.
(c): As on 31.03.2020, the number of ESIC enrolled employees in Karur district was 29,996. Parliamentary Constituency wise data is not maintained.
(d): No proposal has been received from State Government of Tamil Nadu for setting up of new ESI hospital in Karur district, Tamil Nadu.
