Question : Deep Sea Port

(a) whether the Government proposes to set up deep sea port in Great Nicobar Island and also at Tajpur of West Bengal;

(b) if so, whether it is a fact that transshipment zone at Tajpur costs far less than the estimated costs of new deep sea port of Nicobar Island; and

(c) if so, the comparative study report of both projects therein?

(a) There is no proposal for setting up a port at Tajpur, West Bengal by Government of India. However, Andaman and Nicobar administration envisages setting up a Container Transshipment Port at South Bay in Great Nicobar Island.

(b)&(c) Does not arise.
