Question : SITUATION ASSESSMENT SURVEY



(a) whether the first phase of Situation Assessment Survey (SAS) on the Indian farmer has revealed that reforms have failed to benefit poor and marginal farmers;

(b) if so, the reaction of the Government thereon;

(c) whether the Government has taken any remedial steps in this regard;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons for the same?

(a): No, Sir. The Situation Assessment Survey is being conducted by the National Sample Survey Organization as Phase-II of the Study titled `State of Indian Farmers – A Millennium Study`, with agricultural year, 2002-2003 as the reference period. The field work for the Survey commenced in January, 2003 and is planned to continue till December, 2003. The report of the Survey is expected to be available after about 12 months from the date of completion of field work of the Survey.
