Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS [MAJOR GENERAL (RETD.) B.C. KHANDURI]

(a) & (b) : Cherthalai-Alleppey-Haripad-Kayamkulam Section of NH. 47 has already been developed to two lane road. For further development, provision of paved shoulders in the selected stretches of this section has been included in the current Annual Plan 2002-03. The proposal is awaited from the State PWD.

(c) & (d) : The road work of Phase-I and Phase-II of the Kollam Bypass has been completed except one Road Over Bridge (ROB) in Phase-II which is being executed by Railways and is targeted to be completed by September, 2002. For completion of the balance portion of the bypass, it has been planned that the road work is to be taken up from budgetary resources and bridge work through private sector participation. State PWD was requested in December, 2001 to examine the viability of this proposal. The response of the State PWD is awaited.
