(a),(b),(c) and (d):- A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.
Statement in reply to parts (a),(b),(c) and (d) of Lok Sabha Starred Question No.198 for answer on 02/12/2002 regarding Modernisation of Airports.
(a) & (b) Upgradation of airports in the country is a continuous process and is taken up based on operational requirements and availability of funds. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport at Kolkata is one of the major International Airports of the country. The expenditure incurred on capital works during the 9th Five Year Plan period at NSCBI Airport, Kolkata is Rs.74.29 crores. There is a provision of Rs.295.24 crores in the 10th Five Year Plan for infrastructural development works at NSCBI Airport, Kolkata. The Government has also decided to restructure the four metro airports, including Kolkata, with private sector participation to upgrade the airport to world class standards.
(c)and (d):- No separate Airport Development Centre is being planned, but a Cell is being set up within Airports Authority of India for greater focus on planning and development of airports.
