Question : NEW POLICY FOR CHEMICAL INDUSTRY



(a) whether the Government proposes to consider structural administrative changes in the chemical industry and is mulling over formulating a new policy for chemical industry.

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government also proposes to set up chemical research institute in the country;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by the Government to revive/promote chemical industry, and

(e) whether the Government is considering to grant tax exemption for ` Startup units` in the country and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (b); After consultation with all stakeholders/experts, a draft National Chemical Policy has been prepared and is under finalization.

(c) No, Madam.

(d) The Government has taken various steps including rationalization of import duty on feedstock for value addition in the manufacturing chain for the growth of the Chemical Sector.

(e) No, Madam. There is as such no proposal under consideration in the Department.
