Question : Delhi Police

(a) whether the Delhi Police is under the Ministry of Home Affairs at the time of its formation;

(b) if so, the details and the year of its formation;

(c) whether the immovable properties and assets are with Delhi Police at the time
of its formation; and

(d) if so, the details of these immovable assets and properties?

(a) and (b): The Delhi Police has informed that as per Notification No. 911 dated 17 September, 1912, the Delhi Police was placed under the authority of the Governor General of India in Council. It has been proclaimed in the said Notification that the territory, which was then included within the Province of the Punjab, namely, the portion of the District of Delhi comprising the Tahsil of Delhi and the police station Mahrauli, was on and from the first day of October 1912,

taken under the immediate authority and management of the Governor General of India in Council. The Delhi Police, as it exists today, was constituted under the Delhi Police Act, 1978 and is responsible to the Parliament of India through the Ministry of Home Affairs and Lt. Governor of Delhi.
(c) and (d): The Delhi Police has reported that the exact details of the immovable properties and assets at the time of formation are not forthcoming in the records.
