Question : DELHI POLICE OFFICIALS



(a) whether attention of the Government has been drawn to the newsitem captioned `70 Delhi Police personnel have come under a cloud for their alleged links with criminals appearing in the Times of India dated June 2, 2000;

(b) whether the Government have conformed the genuinity of the report or the fact that the officials had developed links with the criminals; and

(c) if so, the details in this connection and the policy of the Government in this regard?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (CH. VIDYASAGAR RAO )

(a) : Yes, Sir.

(b) & (c) : Delhi Police, as a part of an exercise to weed out undesirable elements within its ranks, has identified 36 police personnel suspected of having links with criminal elements. The activities of these suspected personnel are under close scrutiny. In the meantime, all these 36 police personnel have been assigned non-sensitive functions. In addition, ten other police personnel were during the current year removed from service because of their involvement in criminal activities.
