THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD & PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION (SHRI V. SREENIVASA PRASAD)
(a) & (b): No, Sir. It is not possible for the Government
to make the sale of Gold with Bureau of Indian Standards
Certification Mark compulsory at this stage due to unorganized
sector of jewellers spread all over the country. Besides, the
existing infrastructure of the Hallmarking Centres for gold
Jewellery is not adequate to cater to the demand of compulsory
certification.
