Question : CRITERIA FOR APPROVAL OF INSTITUTIONS



(a) the procedure and criteria laid down for taking approval of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for running the techni- cal institutions in the country;

(b) whether the Government/AICTE proposes to amend the said procedure and criteria of approval to ensure that institutions which are chea- ting students by misleading information and false commitments do not get licence;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the time by which a final decision is likely to be taken in this regard?

(a): The procedure and criteria for taking approval of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for running the technical institutions in the country has been laid down in the Approval Process Handbook.

(b) to (d): AICTE publishes the Approval Process Handbook from time to time detailing the norms & standards to be adhered to by the AICTE approved ins- titutions. In case of violation of norms, the institutions are liable for punitive action, which has been detailed in the Approval Process Handbook. The AICTE has published the Approval Process Handbook for 2015-16 recently detailing the norms & standards. The Approval Process Handbook is available on the AICTE website www.aicte-india.org.
