Question : Revival of Closed Mines

(a) the total number of mines in the country State/UT-wise including Maharashtra;

(b) the number of sick and closed mines in the country including Maharashtra out of these along with the workers affected as a result thereof, State/UT-wise;

(c) whether the Government proposes to revive some closed/sick mines in the country especially in Maharashtra; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken/being taken to revive the said mines and to rehabilitate the affected workers especially in Maharashtra?

(a) & (b): As per the information provided by Indian Bureau of Mines (a subordinate office of Ministry of Mines), the details of mines for major minerals (working and non-working) as on 01.04.2019 in the country State/UT-wise including Maharashtra is given at Annexure. The information on workers affected on account of non-working of mines is not maintained centrally in the Ministry.

(c) & (d): The State governments are advised to take remedial action for revival of non-working mines. The matter is exclusively in the jurisdiction of the State Government.
