Question : Information Warfare Techniques

(a) whether India is still banking on imported information warfare techniques;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the GPRS technology belonging to the US did not perform as expected during the Kargil War; and

(d) if so, the steps the Government is taking to strengthen information warfare techniques?

(a) & (b): Information Warfare is a relatively new domain of warfare encompassing Cyber Warfare, Electronic Warfare and its techniques are imbibed and refined by militaries world over. Best practices used by militaries world over have been incorporated in the methodologies and procedures. Requisite capabilities with respect to Electronic Warfare and Cyber Warfare exist in Defence Forces.
(c) & (d): Defence Forces continue to enhance its capacities and capabilities as per Long Term Perspective Plans. Focused approach has been adopted to enhance capability and capacity. Necessary force structuring, R&D and procurement are undertaken to counter the adversaries in this domain.
