Question : Construction of Hostels

(a) whether the Government proposes to construct hostels for minority students under the Multi Sectoral Development Programme;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the details of the funds allocated for the purpose;

(c) whether the said allocation is proving to be inadequate for construction of hostels;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) whether the Government is considering to increase allocations in this regard and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) : Multi-sectoral Development Programme (MsDP) aims at improving the socio-economic conditions of minorities and providing basic amenities to them for improving the quality of life of the minorities in identified Minority Concentration areas. The projects undertaken by the programme relate to the provision of better infrastructure for education, skill development, health, sanitation, hostels, etc. The project proposals are submitted by the State Government/UT Administration as per their needs.

(b) : Since inception up to 31.12.2015, an amount of Rs.7893.50 crore has been approved for different types of projects including 926 hostels under MsDP.

(c) to (e): There is no separate allocation for construction of hostels. These are approved with other projects within overall budgetary allocation.
