Question : Janani Suraksha Yojana

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether Janani Suraksha Yojana is being implemented in the country including State of Maharashtra;

(b) if so, the details thereof including cash assistance for eligible beneficiaries in rural and urban areas;

(c) the details of funds allocated and number of beneficiaries who have availed the scheme during each of the last three years in the country including Maharashtra; and

(d) whether Maternal Mortality Ratio and Infant Mortality Rate have declined as a result of Janani Suraksha Yojana and if so, the details thereof?

(a): Yes, JSY is being implemented all over the country including state of Maharashtra.
(b): The details of the cash assistance in this scheme is at Annexure “A”
(c): The details of the State Program Implementation Plan (SPIP) approvals and number of beneficiaries during the last three years is given in the tables at Annexure “B”
(d): Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a safe motherhood intervention under the National Health Mission, launched on 12 April 2005 and implemented in all states and Union Territories (UTs), with a special focus on Low Performing States (LPS). Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) (per 100000 live births) was 254 as per sample registration system (2004-06) and it decreased down to 130 as per SRS (2014-16). Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is reduced from 58 per 1,000 live births in 2005 to 34 per 1,000 live births in 2016 at National Level. Janani Suraksha Yojna (JSY) is one of the many intervention under Maternal and Child Health programme of MoHFW to reduce Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR).
