Question : TAPPING OF NCES



(a) whether India has not so far made as much progress in tapping non-conventional energy sources as has been made by many other Asian countries;

(b) if so, the facts in this regard;

(c) whether there is a need for realistic renewable energy policy; and

(d) if so, the steps being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a),(b),(c) & (d): India has made significant progress in tapping non-conventional energy as compared to some other Asian countries. Amongst the Asian countries, India ranks first in wind power, second in biogas plants and photovoltaics and third in solar water heaters. There already exists a policy for the promotion of renewable energy and a number of fiscal and financial incentives are available under various programmes/schemes of the Ministry.
