Question : BREAST FEEDING



(a) whether an initiative has been taken by the Government to promote breast feeding and Baby Friendly Hospital;

(b) if so, the number of hospitals in the country adopted or propose to adopt the scheme;

(c) whether the concerned hospital, doctors and nurses have been given training in human lactarion management (HLMT);

(d) if so, the details in this regard; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b),(c)&(d) Presently 1274 hospitals in India have adopted exclusive breastfeeding and been certified as Baby Friendly. According to a UNICEF study, 44% doctors in certified hospitals and 39% in non certified hospitals have received training.
