(a) the total number of licensed Hindi television channels as on date;
(b) whether the cable operators can broadcast news without obtaining necessary permission from the Government; and
(c) if not, the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to check this practice.

(a) As on 31.5.2019, of Information & Broadcasting containing Hindi as one of the permitted languages.
(b) and (c) As per Rule 6(6) of the there are 573 numbers of Private Satellite Television Channels registered with Ministry Cable TV Network Rules, 1994, no cable operator shall carry or include in his cable services any Television broadcast or channel which has not been registered by the Central Government for being viewed within the territory of India. Necessary punitive action is taken by the Government on the violations of the said clause.
