Question : RAILWAY PROJECTS UNDER PPP



(a) whether the Railways propose to set- up multi-functional complexes, develop of world class stations and set-up locomotive and Railway factories and undertake other developmental projects under the public-private partnership model;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Railways propose to take up such projects in the under-developed and developing areas; and

(d) if so, the details thereof, State-wise?

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. Certain areas such as development of world class stations, setting up of manufacturing units for rolling stock and port connectivity projects have been identified for possible execution through public private partnership route. 39 Railway Stations have so far been identified for development into world class station.

Greenfield Electric Locomotive factory at Madhepura (Bihar), Diesel Locomotive Factory at Marhoura and ancillary units of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works and Diesel Locomotive Works at Dankuni (West Bengal) have been identified for development through partnership with Private Sector. Development of multi-functional complexes has been envisaged by Railway at 66 stations, either on its own or through Rail Land Development Authority in Joint Venture with Railway’s Public Sector Undertakings, such as, IRCON International Limited, RITES Limited and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited.

(c) & (d): These projects are taken up in a need based manner and not in terms of State jurisdictions.
