Question : INFILTRATION ALONG INTERNATIONAL BORDERS



(a) whether infiltration along the international borders of the country continue to remain unabated;

(b) if so, the number of such cases reported during each of the last three years and the current year, border-wise;

(c) the status of fencing and flood lights to check infiltration along the international borders of the country, State-wise and border-wise;

(d) whether construction of roads have also been undertaken along the borders from strategic point of view; and

(e) if so, the details thereof, State-wise along with the other measures taken to check infiltration at the Borders?

(a) & (b) The cases of infiltration along the International Borders of the country have been reported. However, no definite pattern emerges from the figures of infiltration pertaining to last three years. The number of such cases reported during the last three years and the current year border-wise is as follows:-

(c) The fencing and floodlighting has been sanctioned by the Government of India along the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Pakistan borders. Fencing has also been sanctioned in a small patch of about 10 km along the Indo-Myanmar border. The details of fencing and floodlighting along the Indo-Bangladesh border are as under:

Indo-Myanmar Border:

The fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border has been sanctioned only in the State of Manipur for a stretch of 10.00 km., out of which about 4.00 km of work has been completed.

(d) & (e) The Government has sanctioned roads from strategic point of view along the Indo-Bangladesh, Indo-China, Indo-Nepal, Indo-Bhutan and Indo-Pakistan borders. The details in this regard are as under:-

The Government has sanctioned construction of roads to the extent of 340 km in Gujarat State and 133.26 km in the Rajasthan State along the Indo-Pakistan Border. Out of these, 261.28 km roads have been completed in Gujarat and 133.26 km in Rajasthan.

Indo-Bhutan border:

The Government has approved construction of 313 Km of border roads along Indo-Bhutan border at a cost of Rs. 1259 crore. The construction activities have not yet started.

The other measures taken to check Infiltration along the borders are as follows:

# Effective domination of the borders by the Border Guarding Forces (BGFs) through carrying out round the clock surveillance of the borders by patrolling nakas (border ambushes) and by deploying observation posts all along the international borders of the country.

# The riverine segments of international borders of the country are being patrolled and dominated with the help of water crafts/speed boats/floating Border Out Posts (
