(a) to (c) : A statement is placed on the Table of the House.

Statement referred to in reply to the Lok Sabha Starred Question No.65 put in by Prof K.V.Thomas, Member of Parliament for answer on 1st March, 2016 regarding Development of Fisheries Sector.
(a) : The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) was set up with the following main aims and objectives:
(i) to enhance fish production and productivity,
(ii) to improve the required fisheries infrastructure facilities,
(iii) to utilize the untapped potential in fisheries and aquaculture in the country
(iv) to bring activities relating to fisheries and aquaculture into focused attention and professional management,
(v) to achieve sustainable management and conservation of natural aquatic resources including the fish stocks,
(vi) to apply modern tools of research and development including biotechnology for optimizing production and productivity from fisheries,
(vii) to generate substantial employment,
(viii) to train and empower women in fisheries sector,
(ix) to enhance contribution of fish towards food and nutritional security
(b) : The various schemes of the Government including the National Fisheries Development Board(NFDB) under the umbrella of “Blue Revolution: Integrated Development and Management of Fisheries” for the welfare of Fishermen in the country are as under:
(i) National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) and its activities,
(ii) Development of Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture,
(iii) Development of Marine Fisheries, Infrastructure and Post-Harvest Operations,
(iv) Strengthening of Database & Geographical Information System of the
Fisheries Sector,
(v) Institutional Arrangements for Fisheries Sector,
(vi) Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) and other need-based
Interventions,
(vii) National Scheme on Welfare of Fishermen.
(c) : The details of the funds released to various States for the development of fisheries during each of the last three years including the current year are at Annexure-I to Annexure-V.
