Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI K.H. MUNIYAPPA)

(a) & (b) The repair and maintenance of National Highways are taken up according to the availability of funds and condition of road and National Highways are kept in traffic worthy condition, within the available fund. The available fund is substantially less than the total funds required for the maintenance of National Highways as per the prescribed norms. Therefore, the maintenance of National Highways may not be strictly as per the prescribed norms.

(c) & (d) The constraint of budgetary allocation does not allow the increase in allocation on the basis of actual requirement.
