Question : CPSU IN TAMIL NADU



(a) the profit/loss of the Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) functioning in Tamil Nadu CPSU-wise; (

(b) the steps proposed to be taken to revive the units which are running in losses; (

(c) whether the Union Government proposes to establish more PSUs in the State as the State’s share of central PSUs are very less ; and (

(d) if so , the details thereof?

(a): 10 Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) were having their registered offices in the State of Tamil Nadu as on 31.3.2006. CPSE-wise details of profit/loss of these enterprises are given in Annex.

(b): The cases of sick/loss making CPSEs are referred to the Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises (BRPSE) by the concerned administrative Ministries/ Departments for its consideration and making suitable recommendations to the Government. The Board has since recommended revival of Madras Fertilizers Ltd.

(c) & (d): In addition to the CPSEs mentioned in reply to part (a) of the question, there are 94 other CPSEs which are having their presence in the State of Tamil Nadu, the details of which are given in Statement 10 of Vol. I of the Public Enterprises Survey (2005-06) which was laid in the Parliament on 19.12.2006 and is a public document. All the CPSEs taken together were having total gross block of Rs. 40423 crore and an employment of 111993 persons. The decisions to set up CPSEs are taken by the concerned administrative Ministries / Departments in consultation with various stakeholders and with the approval of the competent authority.
