Question : Medicinal Plant Research Centres

(a) whether the Government has established various Medicinal Plant research centers in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof State/UT-wise including Maharashtra;
(c) whether the Government provides Grant-in-Aid for production and marketing of Ayurvedic Medicines; and
(d) if so, the details thereof during the last three years, State/UT-wise including Maharashtra?

(a) & (b) Yes, State / UT-wise details of Research Institute / Centre / Unit which are functioning under different Research Councils of Ministry of Ayush, Government of India for conducting various research activities on medicinal plants, is at Annexure-I.

In addition, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) through its constituents’ laboratories i.e. Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow; Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Lucknow; Indian Institute for Integrative Medicines (IIIM), Jammu; Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT), Palampur; National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), Lucknow; North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Jorhat are pursuing research and development on natural products including medicinal and aromatic plants. Department of Science & Technology (DST) through Drugs & Pharmaceutical Research Program (DPRP) has established a "National facility for identification, chemical characterization, standardization and quality control of medicinal plants found in tribal area in Central India", at Banaras Hindu University, Uttar-Pradesh. Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research (DMAPR), Anand, Gujarat under Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) conducts basic, applied and adaptive research on medicinal plants.

(c) Yes, under the Quality Control of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathic (ASU&H) drugs component of National Ayush Mission (NAM) grant was provided for establishment and strengthening of State Government ASU&H Pharmacy from 2014-2020. Further, Central Sector Scheme for Ayush Oushadhi Gunavatta evam Uttpadan Samvardhan Yojana (AOGUSY) is being implemented for the year 2021-2026. Under the scheme there is provision for strengthening and up-gradation of both State Government and Private Ayush Pharmacies to achieve higher standards. The scheme intends to promote and project quality, acceptability and visibility of Ayush products for enhancing people’s confidence in their use for health care and for improving trade.

(d) The details of the Grant in aid provided for establishment and strengthening of State Government ASU&H Pharmacy under Quality Control of ASU&H drugs component of NAM for the years 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20 including Maharashtra is at Annexure-II.
