Question : INDIAN CASUALTIES IN USA



(a) the number of Indians killed, injured or missing in the recent terrorists strikes in USA; and

(b) the assistance extended by the Indian Embassies to the affected families?

(a) As per reports filed with the New York City authorities, 107 persons of Indian origin are missing and presumed dead as a result of the attacks on World Trade Centre, New York on 11th Sept., 2001. 77 persons of Indian origin were admitted in local hospitals and released after being treated for injuries.

(b) The Indian Embassy provided every possible assistance in tracing missing Indians, by operating 24 hour help-lines at CGI, New York, which liaised closely with the New York city authorities. Arrangements have been made with Air India, Indian Airlines and Indian Railways for free transportation of mortal remains of the victims of these attacks from New York to their destinations in India. The Consulate General of India, New York remains in touch with the New York city authorities for any further information regarding the missing persons.
