Question : DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL FOR TYRE INDUSTRY .



(a) whether the Government have constituted the Development Council for Tyre and Tube Industry in order to review their problems;

(b) if so, work done by the Development Council so far; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to check the slow down in the growth in automobile sector and its export?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY DR. RAMAN SINGH
(a) & (b): The Development Council for Tyres & Tubes Industry was constituted in November 1997 for a period of two years and its tenure expired in November 1999.

(c): The Department of Heavy Industry is formulating a New Auto Policy in order to make the industry competitive thereby promoting growth.
