Question : National Population Register

(a) the present status for updation of the National Population Register (NPR), for which the Government has fixed March, 2016 as deadline in the country;

(b) the total funds granted and utilised in this regard;

(c) whether this updated NPR database along with Aadhaar number would become the mother database and can be used by various Government Departments for selection of beneficiaries under their respective scheme; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a): The Government of India has approved the scheme of updation of National Population Register (NPR) in the country through house to house enumeration by designated government officials. The present status of the updation of NPR in the country is enclosed at Annex-A.

(b): The Government has approved an amount of Rs. 951.35 crore for the updation of NPR in the country. Amount utilized is not collated as yet.

(c) to (d): NPR database is already under use by various Departments of the States/UTs Governments. The use of Aadhaar number is subject to the outcome of the Supreme Court Case.
