Question : Activities under CSR

(a) whether the Government proposes to include more activities including sports activities and enhance expenditure in the existing CSR;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the time by which more activities are likely to be incorporated along with the other steps taken/being taken by the Government to ensure proper implementation of CSR and judicious use of funds therein by the companies?

(a) and (b) : Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013 enlists the activities that can be undertaken by Companies under their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) policies. Item No. (vii) of Schedule VII covers, inter-alia, ‘training to promote rural sports, nationally recognized sports, Paralympic sports and Olympic sports’ as eligible CSR activities.

(c): There is no proposal to incorporate more activities under schedule VII of the Act by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Ministry has issued clarificatory circular and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) dated 18.06.2014 and 12.01.2016 respectively to emphasize on the effective implementation of CSR provision by companies and professionals. In addition sensitisation workshops have been organised by the Offices of Regional Directorate under Ministry of Corporate Affairs to ensure effective compliance of CSR provisions by companies.
