Question : Crash of Indian Air Force Aircraft

(a) the number of aircrafts of the Air Force which have crashed during the last two years in the country including Mirage-2000, which has recently crashed in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh;
(b) whether the Government has conducted any investigation regarding the said aircraft accidents;
(c) if so, the details and the outcome thereof along with the action taken in this regard;
(d) the quantum of loss incurred due to such crashes; and
(e) the steps taken by the Government to avoid such incidents in the future?

(a) A total of seven aircraft of Air Force have crashed in the last two years, including the Mirage 2000 which crashed recently in Madhya Pradesh.

(b) to (d): Every aircraft accident in the IAF is investigated by Court of Inquiry (Col) to ascertain the cause of accident and the recommendations of the completed Court of Inquiry are implemented. Only after the completion of the Court of Inquiry, quantum of loss is finalised.

(e) The steps taken by the Government to avoid such incidents in the future include invigoration of Aerospace Safety Organisation, maintaining a database of accident & incidents, improving training methodology, increased use of simulators, enhanced bird hazard management etc.
