Question : BUDGETARY PROVISION FOR NATIONAL HIGHWAYS IN KERALA.



(a) whether the Government are aware of the inadequate budgetary provision for the various National Highway works in Kerala;

(b) if so, whether the Government have received any representation in this regard from Kerala;

(c) if so, the steps taken thereon;

(d) whether the Government are aware of the delay in the construction of Alleppey By pass; and

(e) if so, the steps taken in this regard?

[a & b]: In the recent past enough budgetary provision has been made for various National Highways works in Kerala and no representation has been received from Kerala regarding inadequacy of fund.

c] : Does not arise.

[d & e]: Yes, Sir. The bypass is proposed to be constructed in two phases. Phase I of work consisting of 3.73km length from 0/0 to 2/300 and 6/150 to 7/580 is now progressing well and is targetted for completion by December 2000.

The work of Phase II [in 3.85 km length] is proposed to be taken up under Build, Operate Transfer[BOT] Scheme depending upon the viability of the project which is under study by the consultant.
