Question : ADVERSE EFFECT ON MEDIUM AND SMALL NEWSPAPERS BY FDI

(a) whether the small and medium scale newspapers industry in the country is likely to suffer a lot and there will be further unemployment by allowing FDI in Print Media;

(b) if so, the benefits/adverse effects of allowing FDI in Print Media;

(c) the safeguards taken/likely to be taken to protect the interest of the indigenous magazines/periodicals/journals in Regional languages; and

(d) the steps taken to prevent unemployment on this account?

(b) FDI is likely to be of use in maintaining diversity in the print media and improvement in its quality and also in improved availability of Indian editions of scientific and technical journals and speciality magazines at affordable prices.

(c) & (d):Do not arise in view of (a) above.
